Skyline HS LRCII teacher
Hello hello! Last week was rough, but we made it through! It was SO nice to "see" most of you on Friday and I really enjoyed everyone singing "Happy Birthday" to me. What really made me happy was seeing students that I hadn't seen yet--like Chris and Cayden! :) I have started setting 'check-in' meetings with students (and parents), especially for those that have several different classes. If you would like to schedule a time to meet with me on Microsoft teams, you can either comment in the "General" thread of teams or send me an e-mail: Specific assignments are being assigned for students in Raz Plus (reading), L3 (math)--THIS ONE is NEW this week!, Boardmaker (life skills, vocational), and Boom cards (all subjects). All of the links will be posted in the "Online Resources" tab. Some assignments MAY be too easy for your student, and some may be TOO difficult. Please let me know if either is the case so I can find more appropriate assignments to meet the specific needs of your student.
We will continue with our weekly TEAMS meetings on Friday's, but they are changing to 12:30 pm due to time constraints with scheduling. I have already created the next one for this Friday, May 1st. As always, stay safe and enjoy learning while in your PJs! :) Mrs. H

Hello Students and Families!
I hope each and every one of you had a relaxing and fun-filled Spring break, even given that it was a "staycation". I spent a lot of time with my family doing different projects around the house and yard (our garden is starting to look great), as well as took some time to rest and gear up for doing remote teaching! This week starts something new for all of us--it is called Continuous Learning. I will be contacting each family/student to inquire about creating a Continuous Learning Plan (CLP) for the remainder of the school year. I will create remote learning opportunities for each student, as well as the whole class, to participate in while at home. This may look like: pre-recorded videos, getting supplies/packets to you, and/or providing a powerpoint presentation for you and your family to follow along in order to focus on your specific learning needs. I also intend for us to continue our weekly social meetings on Friday's at 11am. I will be sending out an e-mail tomorrow to every student/family to inform of my weekly office hours---times specifically set out to communicate and support! PLEASE do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions/concerns or suggestions about remote learning. Take care and stay safe! I am thinking of all of you and miss you SO very much!!! Mrs. H :) Hello students and families!
This has been one crazy ride thus far, but I am so happy that I am still able to see your faces and talk to you every Friday on our Zoom social meetings. We will continue to do these every Friday at 11am. Remember--this Friday we will converse for 15 minutes and then Ms. Natalia will be doing brain gym with all of us that want to participate! We need to focus our brains to learn even more so while at home! This week I will continue to post EELR's on the Online Resources page. A survey also will be sent out to families asking general questions about support and access at home. We are working our way towards online instruction starting on April 20th (after Spring break). We (teachers) are still collaborating as to what this looks like for each of you. Thank you for your patience and open communication so we can provide ongoing learning opportunities during the closure. Please don't hesitate to contact me for any questions/concerns or even just to say hi! I encourage every student to have his/her own e-mail (or one that can be accessed through a parent e-mail). Write to me about how you are doing or how you are spending your time (besides playing video games and/or sleeping)! Next week is Spring break; write to me about your plans or if your plans changed (and what they changed to). Take care, stay safe and "see" you Friday at 11am! :) Here we are, our second (or third)??? full week at home learning. I feel like it has been FOR EVER since seeing all of you in person! Although I miss our daily routines greatly, we must all remember that we are being safe so everyone can stay healthy.
This week I plan to provide more resources that will help families make a learning schedule at home. Everything should be printable from home (if you are able to). Under "ONLINE RESOURCES" you will find EELR's, Emergency Educational Learning Resources, specific to vocations, self-care, and independent living. At LEAST one will be posted per week. If you have a favorite vocational or something specific you would like to learn about, then please e-mail me about it! [email protected] Additionally, you will find a list of authors from all levels (elementary, middle, and high school) that are sharing writing, poetry, drawing, and read aloud's on the attached websites. I encourage everyone to check out at least one new author a week and do an activity. It was SO great to see Max, Rose, Rabab, Tanisha, and Michael on our Zoom meeting last week, along with Ms. Sarah and Ms. Suni! :) Another invite will be sent out to everyone via e-mail for this Friday at 11am. The e-mail about the meeting also will include guidelines and expectations while in our "social" Zoom meetings. If you are looking for a little movement in your life (inside your home of course), the PE department, including Ms. Wincewicz (Wince) has a webpage filled with resources and things to do! https://sites.google.com/site/mswincewicz/ Until next time, stay safe and healthy! Mrs. H :) Hello students and families! It is so nice to "see" you! This is a crazy, unpredictable time that we are in right now. I hope the resources that I provide will enable your student to continue learning, as well as focus on personal growth through this challenging time. These resources are ONLY suggestions, not requirements, and if you have any that you would like to share, please post a message after this entry or send me an e-mail. :)
I have added another "tab" to the menu "Online Resources". For today, I added Virtual Field Trips (mainly zoo's), Reading--read aloud's by authors (elementary level for today; I will post more levels throughout the week), and Other--science, art, general, and social skills. PLEASE feel free to share any experiences your student has with any of these resources, either by commenting on here or e-mailing me. In addition to these resources (which I will add to throughout the week), I also want to make sure that every student knows that he/she can access Typing.com and ixl Math. Both links are here: https://www.typing.com/ https://www.ixl.com/math/partner=google&campaign=71590888&adGroup=11909213968&gclid=CjwKCAjwvOHzBRBoEiwA48i6AlY4ru8x18XsIvNe2qk2jWIE-5248njU8y-cJtuUDWa8gVZanfi8mhoCM0MQAvD_BwE Every student has his/her own login and password. If you need the information, please contact me via e-mail and I will send it to you. I also (*finally*) added pictures from our Holiday party and field trip to Microsoft. It was nice "seeing" the students when I posted pictures, but I still miss seeing them every weekday! Check them out under the "Pictures" tab. Enjoy! Have FUN! and Take care!!! Mrs. H :) I hope all of you had a wonderful, restful, and relaxing break! Now to get back to work and learning. :)
*In the process of posting pictures from our cookie decorating the last few days prior to Winter break. More importantly, the pictures from our amazing head custodian, Wes Buchanan, and his gift giving! *WA-AIM testing will begin in January. 10th graders will be given the Math and ELA portions and our one 11th grader will participate in the Science portion. Please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions about the state alternative assessment. *Field trip in the works! We are planning a SPECIAL field trip to Microsoft to learn and experiment with some AWESOME technology. Stay tuned for more details! *Academics--stay tuned for another post about what we will be focusing on for January and February. Think along the lines of community helper vocations and *cold* places! All my best! Mrs. H :) Hello families!
I DO NOT know where October and November went! Did you see them fly by? I am glad that we are starting to get into some set routines and growing as a class. It will be 2nd semester before we know it! Below are a few things we have been doing as a class. :) *Spartanbucks started in November! Our class makes and delivers coffee on Wednesday afternoons during 6th period (Vocational class). Students are in a rotation and should have a turn at least once a month. We also have a few students that are doing some special jobs on Friday's to help prepare for the upcoming week. This is a very influential program that helps students with social skills (conversation) and on-the-job skills (following directions). Our wonderful SLP, Julie Sadoff, and OT, Courtney Waugh, co-lead the program. *Academics--we have reading groups! Each student is a part of a group that reads one book (approximately each week, some a little longer). We focus on vocabulary and finding information from the text to answer questions. Come January/February, the department will be rolling out a new reading curriculum! Math--besides IEP goals, which several of them focus on functional math skills with money, we have started WHAT is it?
L.E.A.P. Club stands for Leadership. Empathy. Acceptance. Pride. The club was created by a previous teacher and its purpose was to provide opportunities for students without disabilities to do special events for students with disabilities. This year, the club is switching over to a Unified Club. This means that the club will have students with and without disabilities working together to plan fun, meaningful experiences for all! WHEN do we meet? Every other Tuesday afternoon, 3:00pm, in the Career Center/Counseling office (NOTE: last meeting was Tuesday, 10/8/19) WHO is invited? EVERYONE and ANYONE that likes to plan events and have fun together! WHAT things do we do? *pumpkin patch (weekend field trip) *All Star Basketball Tournament (there will be 2 this year!) *talent show *Prom *and many other service projects! Looking forward to another great Homecoming week, football game, and dance this school year! :) Mrs. H Whew! We completed the first full week of school! I hope your student had a productive first week and is getting back into the swing of the school routine. Below are a few things for this week:
FLEX TIME Tomorrow is our third day with block schedule (times listed under the "calendar" tab) and FLEX time. During FLEX time tomorrow students will learn what it is, what the NEW Spartan voted name will be (crossing fingers for "SPAR"), and how to log into the system to "request" teachers. FLEX time is: a time for students to get the support in classes that they need help in, for teachers to offer interventions and help for kids. Students that typically remain in the LRCII classroom throughout the school day will be "requested" by me to stay in Room 2306 during FLEX time. If the student is NOT requested by me, then the student's schedule will automatically place the student in his/her 1st period class on Tuesday's and 6th period class on Wednesday's. If you have more questions regarding FLEX time and how it impacts your student, please feel free to contact me (contact information under "get in touch" tab). NOTE: Curriculum Night starts at 6pm with the Keynote Speaker in the theater. There will be a Club Fair (time to learn about the different clubs at Skyline) from 5:30-6:00 pm. You are welcome to come early to learn about different clubs (like LEAP club). Hope to see you at Curriculum Night! Have a great week! Mrs. H :) P.S. Look out for an e-mail and post later this week regarding Homecoming NEXT WEEK! |
